Abstract
Based on the analysis of the provisions of the Constitution of the Russian Federation (above all the preamble, the first and second chapters of that Constitution attaches particular importance), as well as the 20-yearold practice of realization of the constitutional norms, the basic values of the Russiаn Constitution are examined from three positions: as a value of the fact of adoption of the Constitution by referendum 1993, which meant that the first steps of transition from confrontation to the civil peace and concord; as the basic law, which has supreme legal force, laying down the foundations of the legal status of the individual, the social and state order; the political and ideologiсal document, which contains the principal provisions, initial starts for the legal expression of the values, understood as particularly significant in the mentality of society.
