Abstract
The article is dedicated to the study of the reasons of lack of legislative regulation of domain names in the Russian Federation. A brief historical survey of the development of Internet is performed. The author pays special attention to issues concerning the domain name concept and its relationship with other protected objects. The international practice in the field of domain names is also considered and certain conclusions with regard to the development prospect of legal regulation of domain names in Russia are formulated.
