Abstract
The history of freezing loans during gambling starts in XVIII c. At first, such prohibition regarded to sailors only and it had an effect on a limited range of people. The first general (for all subjects of law) prohibition to give loans for betting appeared in 1761 in home law. In XIX c. failure ofjustice rule for the claims following from obligations in gambling was included into Complied Statutes of Russian Empire of 1832. Indeed Russia could not ban absolutely all games but it was longing to show its subjects the negative stance on gambling and a debt in gambling had no legal effect.
