Abstract
The article provides an overview of discussion, which has taken place at the Institute of State and Law of the Russian Academy of Sciences, of the monograph of the member-correspondent of the Russian Academy of Sciences Gennady Vasilyevich Maltsev “Revenge and retribution in the ancient law”. Such questions, as retributive justice, historical evolution of the relation of revenge and legal system, relation of law and the institute of revenge, law and reconciliatory procedures are considered.
