- Abstract
- The need for assessment of “strain in social space” for the analysis of the modern Russian society is being justifi ed (for prequel look “ONS”. 2013. № 5). This strain is not merely a political tension but rather it exists and reproduces itself in the system of relationships among various groups and actors. The strain in social space arises when the real social positions do not match the expectations or when these positions drift unfavorably under various circumstances. The genesis of the “social space” construct and its differences from the “physical” one are considered. The social space is presented through the major types of capital – economic, cultural, social and symbolic capitals. Empirical indicators for assessment of the strain in social space nationwide and in the regions are presented aiming at solving the problems of the consolidation of the society.
