Abstract
The author draws on a range of fieldwork data and other sources in his study of pre-monotheistic mythic characters that had been part of Andalal Avars' pagan pantheon in the past. He argues that, despite the centuries-long influence of Christianity and Islam, pagan deities rather persistently remained in the culture of the Andalal Avars. The exploration of these deities contributes to the rich picture of pagan beliefs of Dagestan and North Caucasus peoples that we are yet to discover.
