- Abstract
- The article discusses the latest archival research conducted by the author at the Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology, Russian Academy of Sciences; the Department of Manuscripts of the State Literature Museum; and the Russian State Archive of Literature and Arts. The findings indicate that the Etnografiia (later Sovetskaia etnografiia) journal was a direct successor to the Etnograficheskoe obozrenie journal published in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The key figures in relaunching the journal in 1926 under the Etnografiia title were Russian scholars V. V. Bogdanov and B. M. Sokolov. The author points that the correct foundation date of the present-day Etnograficheskoe obozrenie journal (successor to Sovetskaia etnografiia) therefore has to be 1889, that is the founding year of the nineteenth-century edition bearing the same title.
