Abstract

The data of the “Armenian Geography” (Ašharhac‘оyc‘) on the ancient Bulgar tribes is being investigated in the article. Its basis was taken from a Middle Persian source on the resettlement of the Onogurs and their successors, the Utigurs in the Azov-Don region (Eulisia of the Procopius of Caesarea). Armenian geographer added to the information new facts on the Hunnogundurian-Bulgar state. However, he had no clear idea about the exact settlement area of the Unnogundurians and the Bulgars. Subsequently it placed Asparukh’s military camp in the Don region, where the Utigurs were localized by scholarly tradition.
