Abstract
The author demonstrates, that the presence of the elements of mythological thinking in individual and collective mind is a primary factor, that makes the existence of self-centered personality possible and, consequently, is a necessary precondition of trust and responsibility. Some ideas of L. Wittgenstein and J. Habermas are considered in this perspective. The author's argumentation is illustrated by the episodes of the novel "L'Etranger" ("The Stranger", "The Outsider") by A. Camus.
