Abstract
The understanding of the evolutionary origins of man is connected to Charles Darwin's attitude to religion which changed in process of creation of the theory of evolution. In the beginning of his travel on the "Beagle" he was the orthodox believer. By the moment of the publication of "The Origin of Species" and till the end of his life he became the non-believer, but tried to not advertise his disbelief publicly, being afraid, that it will harm his evolutionary theory, his family and his position in the society.
