Abstract
The social status of veterans of the Afghanistan war is considered in the perspective of government social policy. The attitude to combatants of that War in the Soviet and post-Soviet Russia varied from hushing up from the involvement of Soviet troops in combat activities to glorification of the soldiers-internationalists rendering assistance to friendly Afghan people; and to moral and political denunciation of intervention to other state; and, finally to the rehabilitation of combatants in public opinion and recognition them in the capacity of veterans of war.
