Abstract
In the study of various mental images, associative experiments give more objective results than verbal surveys. The article analyzes the results of associative experiments that reveal the features of the civil identity of a modern young Russian. Verbal associations are supplemented with data from associative experiments using visual intermediaries. The results showed the presence of a Foundation for the formation of civil identity (generally positive associations to the concepts of “Russia”, “patriotism"). Hindering factors are the lack of expression of the concepts “Russian”, “citizen”, as well as the negative attitude of the majority of respondents to “power”.
