Abstract
The article considers the significance of the study of intercultural communication and acculturation in modern society. Immigrants and temporary migrants are studied as the main objects of intercultural communication and acculturation. The main focus is on temporary migrants (“visitors”) – international tourists, students participating in inter-country educational exchange programs, foreign employees and employees of enterprises working abroad (labor migrants). Ideas are analyzed the study of acculturation in modern society by J. Berry, who proposed the design of such a study at the group and individual levels. The first level examines the goals, duration and persistence of contacts, and political, economic, demographic, and cultural changes in both groups. On the second level – the depth of contact and involvement of a person in it, changes in their specific daily behavior. In conclusion, we summarize the ideas for designing a study of intercultural communication and acculturation.
