- Abstract
- In the modern professional discourse of the sociology of religion, the concept of “religiosity” is one of the most popular and frequently used. At the same time, the applied study of this phenomenon is mainly limited to either quantitative surveys involving a multidimensional model of measuring religiosity, or surveys about religious affiliation. Because of this, the content and structural components of the religiosity of various groups do not fall into the focus of researchers ' attention. The inclusion of biographical narrative in the Arsenal of applied methods allows us to identify the collective and individual components of religiosity. However, its use in studies of religious groups and actors is associated with a number of methodological difficulties, the explanation of which is not always provided in the relevant manuals and developments. This article offers a detailed analysis of the most complex aspects of the biographical narrative methodology: search for respondents, the method of conducting such an interview, and the stages of interviewing. Each stage of explanation is illustrated with examples from the author's study of religious Jewry in Saint Petersburg (2015). The analysis of biographical narrative procedures is carried out with the involvement of research materials about the everyday life of Jewish religiosity, the specifics of its chronotope and the manifestations of the "we are others" disposition.
