Abstract
The civil service is considered as a field of professional activity, and the official profession itself is considered from the standpoint of the neoveberian approach. Based on the analysis of semi-structured interviews with civil servants, the features of their professionalization are revealed. Since this sphere of activity is monopolized by the state, they experience difficulties in establishing professional autonomy, implementing the practice of social closure, and forming a positive image of the profession in society. This situation is more likely to play against the professionalization of civil servants, rather than allowing them to adapt to modern challenges. It is shown that the application of the neoveberian perspective to the analysis of the professionalization of officials opens up opportunities for regulating the profession from the perspective of interaction with citizens.
