- Abstract
The publication is dedicated to the 190th anniversary of Lev Tolstoy. It deals with two instances of his and his wife’s contacts with the magazine Severnij Vestnik (Northern Herald) and its editors, L. Gurevich and A. Volynskij. Until now, the first meeting of Tolstoy and Volynskij (August 1893) has never been mentioned in the literature on Tolstoy. Here we publish Gurevich’s letter to an unidentified recipient about this important event. The article also describes an episode that Gurevich chose to leave out of her reminiscences about S. A. Tolstaya and her relations with the writer.
