- Abstract
In the early 1990s, the Japanese economy which for a quarter century bear the proud name of "economic miracle" was nicknamed the "bubble economy". These changes did not greatly affect the state of U.S.-Japanese relations. Japan's hopes for world economic leadership collapsed, as well as American’s concerns about Japanese economic expansion. U.S.-Japan relations turned into a routine procedure of exchanging state visits and clarifying everyday interaction problems. The last three decades of relations between Tokyo and Washington are characterized by the U.S. attempts to persuade Japan to expand its allied obligations and Japanese hopes to evade violation of article 9 which “renounce war as a sovereign right of the nation”. President D. Trump unleashed a new wave of “automobile war” between two countries but both sides were able to find the necessary compromise. Today U.S.-Japanese relations serves as an example of how two countries after many years of friendship and war, love and hatred finally managed to build a relationship of respect and mutual benefit.
