- Abstract
- Soviet type of secularization was based on atheist ideology and policy of the state. During the first 25 years after the revolution the Orthodox Church was deprived of the status of legal entity and many reptesentatives of the clergy were severely persecuted as enemies of the people. In 1943 the church hierarchy was officially recogaized and admitted to soviet political system at the price of total loss of liberty and unconditional support of the communist regime.
