Abstract
In the article, the author attempts to analyze the idea of subsidiarity as a principle regulating the exercise of shared legislative competences of the European Union and its Member States, to explore the criteria of application of the principle of subsidiarity within the legal framework of the European Union, to focus on the scope of functions of the European Union and its Member States related to their exercise of the shared legislative competences. The purpose of the article is to derive certain conclusions allowing to put forward proposals on the possible adaptation of the European Union's positive experience of the application of the principle of subsidiarity regulating the exercise of shared legislative competences to Russia's system of demarcation of legislative areas and functions (competences).
