Abstract
the majority of researchers connects the origin of the institution of extradition in Russia with the Russian-Byzantine convention of 911 known also as the Convention of Prince Oleg with Greeks. However on closer examination it appears that the mentioned convention does not contain any extradition norms. On the contrary, such norms can be found in the trade conventions between the medieval Russian and European cities. At this historical stage extradition as a legal institution became possible due to the stable development of the political and economic relations between the states.
