- Abstract
- The article is devoted to the legal regime of the Bering Strait, in the context of environmental changes in the Arctic and the fact that the Bering Strait is becoming more accessible to shipping. Such terms as "the Bering Strait Region”, "Beringia” are described in the article; existing rules of International Law relevant to the Status of the Bering Strait are scrutinized, with special attention to issues of protection of the environment in the Bering Strait Region and to legal options of future improving of safety of navigation in the Bering Strait. Thus, the importance of bilateral cooperation between Russia and the USA in the Bering Strait Region is underlined.
