- Abstract
- The article explores the history of the first staging of the comedy of Nikolai Gogol «The Government Inspector» in Serbia, at the National Theatre (1870), as this event was reflected in the Belgrade press. Disputes arising in the Serbian art criticism after the premiere of the play dealt not that much with the production of the play, but rather with the evaluations of the work itself and repeated almost verbatim controversy, which arose forty years earlier on the pages of Russian magazines after the «The Government Inspector» premiere in St. Petersburg.
