Abstract

The article explores the place of the Kurdish question in the Middle East policy of J. Carter administration in 1977-1980 and its influence on the development of approaches to understanding the Iranian revolution. The Author characterizes key groups of the Kurdish national liberation movement of this period in Iran and Iraq. The text is considering the process of forming bilateral relations between the United States and Tehran. The paper researches activities of the most influential figures of the Kurdish movement, revealing their contacts with the representatives of the American leadership and the political elites of Iran. The Author analyzed CIA’s participation in collecting information on the Kurdish problem in the Near and Middle East and in implementing practical policies. The paper reviews the reasons for the reluctance of the United States to develop relations with the Kurdish national movement during the Carter presidential term.
