The article is devoted to the consideration of the generational approach to the history of modern Russian sociology as a theoretical problem in the context of the unity and differences of the all-Russian and regional aspects. Generational problems are considered as one of the most important in theoretical sociology, but they have not yet received sufficient coverage and are largely considered debatable. The purpose of the article is to analyze the generations of sociologists through the prism of generational, generational-functional, spatial-temporal approaches based on the use of the biographical and documental methods. The logic of the research process, which led to the interpretation of the generation of sociologists proposed in the article, is considered. The definition of this concept is given. The time limits of the generation are set. A brief description of seven generations in post-war Soviet/Russian sociology is given, an attempt is made to consider their further history in the all-Russian and regional context. Special attention is paid to the consideration of the dominant function of generation as its central characteristic. The leitmotif of the article is the idea that the history of Russian sociology is the history of sociologists integrated into generations. Hence the approach to the history of our science as a process of changing generations of sociologists, the interaction of several simultaneously acting generations, the use of theoretical and empirical baggage accumulated by each of them.
