Abstract
The article analyzes the social origins, scale, and results of the partisan movement in the USSR. Its national character for protection Fatherland defined the name of this war – the Great Patriotic war. The article considers the main parameters of partisan formations operating in the occupied territories of the Russian Federation, Belarus, Ukraine and the Baltic republics. Based on archival materials of The Central headquarters of the partisan movement (tshpd), the social characteristics of partisan forces are presented. Socio-political and organizational factors of formation are shown mass partisan movement, the motives for the participation of Soviet citizens in it.
