The article analyzes the results of Romania’s membership in the EU and NATO, the collapse of illusions on rapid Westernization, the impact of the crisis in the European Union on all spheres of Romanian society. The author summarizes some results of Romania's transition from authoritarianism to democracy, market transformation, change of state monopoly to the monopoly of Western capital. A special place is given to the consideration of new phenomena in political and public life, the confrontation of elites, the processes of social stratification, the role of the Hungarian national minority, the increasing delegitimization of power. A significant place is given to the analysis of the attempts of the center-left government coalition to develop a new strategy for the development of the country, taking into account internal problems, the impact of global challenges and risks, as well as the peculiarities of countering these intentions on the part of right-liberal parties, positioning themselves as consistent adherents of Eurocentrism. The author pays great attention to the contradictions between the Romanian government and Brussels, including the problems of refugees, the reform of national justice. The author emphasizes the wide dissatisfaction in the society with the results of privatization, the process of revision of traditional values in the European Union. The consequence of these phenomena was the creation of new parties with pronounced conservative-nationalist views, strengthening the mood of euroscepticism, the requirements of the revision of the philosophy of membership in the European Union, taking into account the national interests of individual members. The author comes to the conclusion that despite all the disagreements with the European Union Romania remains a stable partner of the EU. Romania has positioned itself as the most reliable NATO Outpost in The black sea basin, considering Russia as the biggest threat to its security. By minimizing trade and economic cooperation with Russia, by binding itself to numerous treaties within the framework of The North Atlantic partnership in the emerging new geopolitical system, Romania remains the object of EU and NATO policy.
