The publication introduces the readers to a new fundamental work of the well-known Russian specialist in Spanish political problems Aleksander A. Orlov, dedicated to the history and modern state of such a significant and complex social phenomenon as Catalan nationalism. The review gives a description of the monograph, its place in a significant number of domestic and foreign publications, touching on the key problems of the political development of Catalonia, the place of this region in the historical destiny and on the current political map of Spain. In the review are fixed the most acute problems associated with the rise of Catalan separatism, and the contribution of the author of the peer-reviewed monograph to the development of these problems is assessed. All the contents of the book show that the Catalan crisis, which has been linked to an attempt by separatist forces to secede Catalonia from Spain and create an independent Catalan state, is far from its finish.
