Abstract

The article analyzes the political and economic evolution of the Cuban socialist model from 1991 to 2019. The author pays special attention to the internal and external factors that formed the specific economic and political structure of Cuba. It deals, for example, with the conflicting experience associated with the introduction of market elements. Those processes had mainly forced character and were conditioned by the need to introduce the Cuban national economy into the global capitalist system in the context of the Socialist Bloc collapse. The reforms were aimed not at the radical change of the Cuban planned economy but at the improvement of its efficiency in the context of the resources insufficiency. The availability of such public goods as education and healthcare is mainly explained by the possibilities of the planned organization of production.
