Abstract

The article is devoted to Rose of Lima, the first native of the New World, canonized by the Catholic Church. When referring to the biography and heritage of this religious figure, it is clear that the Creole element in them is minimal, and the Indian is absent. The article gives a brief outline of the biography and spiritual formation of Rose. The interaction of the Saint with the Indian world is considered. The cult of Rose of Lima in Peru and other Latin American countries till the present is analyzed. Its example shows that cultural cross-breeding in colonial Latin America was not all-encompassing. Paradoxically, Rose is one of the Holy protectors of the indigenous population of Latin America and is worshipped by this population.
